Nicknamed The Port City, Mobile, Alabama makes a strong
case for those deciding on a Gulf Coast cruise port. Spend a day in the
most populous city of Alabama, see the Mobile River, and discover the
history of a city which was once the first capital of colonial French
Louisiana.
For Alabama residents, choosing to depart from Mobile is
a no-brainer considering it is the only port in Alabama. But for the
rest of us, keep in mind that Mobile is a cultural hub! Before you
embark for your cruise from Mobile, you could find yourself in an art
museum, viewing a professional opera, or just admiring the wonderful
architecture. For example, this culturally diverse port city is host to
the famed Carnival festive season which includes the entire city
rejoicing in celebration, circus-like parades, parties, and for all of
you dress-up lovers—a masquerade! If you are not lucky enough to be in
embarking or returning from a cruise during Carnival, you will find
that there is no lack of things to do. The Mobile Museum of Art has
pieces from Europe as well as America. The Mobile Symphony and Space
301 (a contemporary art gallery) are located in the incredible Saenger
Theatre of Mobile, which has been in existence since 1927. Of course,
you can always check out some of America’s marine warriors at the
Battleship Memorial Park on the shore of Mobile Bay.
