Discover the world on your own terms with an expedition cruise vacation. An expedition cruise is a wonderful opportunity to break out of the box and discover a land that you may not have ever thought you could visit. An expedition cruise is actually much more than a vacation. Your itinerary is jam packed with activities and onboard events that immerse you in the lands visited.
For instance, in the Arctic you’ll learn of the Vikings and the narwhal, a tusked whale; in the Galapagos, you’ll learn how to photograph iguanas and other animals; and in Micronesia, you’ll be greeted by the village chiefs and participate in the local customs.

Featured below are a few of our favorite sample excursions that can be experienced on an expedition cruise:
- Visit Nukuoro islet (Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia ) where you’ll take a tour through taro patches and see where bananas and breadfruit are grown. The locals will even teach you how to make a dish called copra.
- Visit an open air museum in Nanortalik, Greenland. You’ll meet Inuit dressed in ancient garb and learn the customs of their people. There is also a chance to see a folk dance and enjoy some kaffe-mik, a coffee and cake treat.
- Fly over the Sesriem Canyon to see the Sossusvlei Dunes (Walvis Bay, Namibia). These impressive dunes tower 250 meters above the ground. On your flight you’ll also fly over seal colonies and deserted mining camps.
- Sail through the Garibaldi Fjord (Chile), whose beauty is unsurpassed. Here you’ll see steep cliffs with waterfalls trickling down. The Fjord has a magnificent Garibaldi glacier and lots of other icy blue chunks floating in the passageway.
- In Kaikoura (New Zealand), learn about modern day Maori and go on a guided walk through a forest where you’ll learn about the medicinal and culinary uses of certain plants. You can learn a Maori song, or waiata, and visit a fortified village.
- Take a hike to the hot springs along the Chazma River (Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia). As you walk you might spot the large Steller’s sea eagle soaring overhead. Along the Morzovaya Bay you could see brown bears and tour an abandoned trapper’s hut, along with a Japanese shipwreck.
