Djupivogur is a small town in the district of Djupavoshreppur, which lies in the Southernmost part of Eastern Iceland. The town is located on a peninsula on this Eastern part of Iceland. Djupivogur covers an estimated area of about 1,133 km2 and hosts a population of about 470 people. The town has a long history of trading that dates back to around 1589. This long trade history awarded the town with a small port that acted as a trading base for Danish colonialists in the early 19th century. Currently, the main industries in the town are fishing and tourism, with the latter growing steadily due to the natural beauty that is evident in the region and the mild weather that is a product of the town's proximity to the Gulf Stream.
