S. Queensferry, Scotland Cruise Port

Tucked away to the west of Edinburgh in Scotland, South Queensferry, sometimes referred to as “The Ferry,” is a town with about 9,000 residents that lies across the Froth Bridge from North Queensferry. The beautiful waterfront is marvelously on display from a series of walking paths, as well as some relaxing sidewalk cafes. There are a number of old churches in the town, most from the 17^th and 18^th centuries, but some dating back as far as the 15^th century! They all have been preserved and considerably restored at some point, and most still hold services a few times a week. You’ll find plenty of other historic buildings, castles and inns, but a portion of Queensferry has been modernized and contains commercial amenities like grocery stores and fast food joints.

• Inchcolm Abbey is a preserved monastic building built around 1235. Alexander I wished to have a monastery on the island, but the dream wasn’t fulfilled until after his death when his brother David I had it erected in his honor.
   
• Forth Road Bridge separates North and South Queensferry. This stunning work of architecture is best observed via a boat trip along the river.
   
• Midhope Castle is rumored to have been built in the mid-15^th century, but today the structure is left derelict on private land. It’s still a fabulous sight to see despite the many restrictions placed on visitors by the landowners.
   
• The Queensferry Museum is a small museum with only four rooms, but each is packed with interesting artifacts and furniture. Plus, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and add to this fascinating experience.
