Spetsai (Spetses), Greece Cruise Port

Take a cruise through the sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea to find the port of Spetsai, Greece. Also commonly spelled as Spetses, this affluent and pine tree-covered island can be found within the prefecture of Attica and is close to the Peloponnese mainland, although it has become a vacation hotspot for Athenians. The only large settlement on the island is the town of Spetses, whose population of around 4,000 residents swells during the height of tourist season. There’s no private transportation on the island; travelers can get around by foot, bus, taxi, or bike – but if you really want to go in style, take a horse-drawn buggy. Easter weekend is one of the busiest times to visit, as generations of Holy Week traditions continue to draw in crowds. With festivals and outdoor activities galore, there’s never a dull moment. Here are some of our favorite experiences when cruising to Spetsai, Greece:

Bouboulina's Museum was once the home of 1821 War of Independence heroine Laskarina Bouboulina. Today you'll find plenty of artefacts and exhibits from that time period, along with a lovely garden outside. If you go to the harbor, look for her statue as well.
There are plenty of beaches on Spetsai, and one of the best is Ayia Paraskevi. Located on the west side of the island, it's away from the tourists and is quieter than some other options. There's a picturesque church nearby, along with soft sand and crystal clear water as far as the eye can see.
Do some exploring in Bekiri's Cave, near another popular beach called Agioi Anargyroi. While it isn't easy to reach, the payoff is worth it to see the stalagmites, the small sandy beach, and blue waters. The cave was also a hideout for women and children during the Kasteli massacre of the 1770s, when Turks attacked the island.
Take a half-hour walk (or rent a bike) to visit the Aghioi Pantes nunnery. Here you'll find a spectacular view of the neighboring island of Spetsopoula; you may even see the island of Hydra and the Mountain of Parnon when the skies are clear.
