Sami, Greece Cruise Port

The town of Sami is located on the island of Cephalonia in the Ionian Islands. A municipality prior to 2011, Sami, despite being a small fishing village, has a population over 2,400, which is quite large for the region. It’s one of the largest shopping and tourist areas in the region, offering many shops, cafes, and city shopping centers all brimming with commerce. Sami, Greece also contains a series of expansive beaches looking out onto the beautiful, aquamarine waters. There are caves to explore, formed over thousands of years through continuous erosion. For those interested in history, the island contains the ruins of an ancient castle as well as the Monastery of Mother of God of Agrilia. Film buffs will be particularly interested in Sami Harbor and nearby Kefalonia Island because a number of scenes from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin were filmed at various locations there back in the year 2000.
