Nuku’alofa, which roughly translates to “love abode” is the capital city of the Kingdom of Tonga. The city is found on the Northern Coast of the Tongatapu Island, which is the southernmost island group of the Kingdom of Tonga. It is believed that the bay of Nuku’alofa was the anchoring point that was referred to in the journal of British Captain James Cook when he was on a voyage in 1777. Cook then drafted the very first map of the bay of Nuku’alofa. However, the first written record of the city’s name was stated in a dedicated book by a missionary called George Vason. Nature lovers and adventurers should visit the Mapu’a ‘a Vaea, also known as the Chief’s Whistles. This is the site where several blowholes can be seen spurting seawater skywards.The stretch that is riddled with blowhole rocks stretches for about 5km.
