Located along the French Riviera on the French/Italian border, Menton is a commune within the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region of southeastern France. Nicknamed the Pearl of France, this resort city is often referred to as the most beautiful on the Riviera because of its mountainous horizon, pristine climates, and its world-renowned gardens. Mediterranean-styled gardens are sporadically dotted across the lands, many of which possess groves able to produce lemons, oranges, and tangerines all year round. The quaint and picturesque old town is located on an incline with roads, houses, and churches all leading up to the cemetery atop the hill which provides the greatest panoramic view of the city. Much of Menton’s architecture was influenced by the Italians and therefore stands out in contrast to other French towns. Late designer, poet, and writer Jean Cocteau’s style adorns many of the inner-city landmarks and buildings while a museum further showcases his life’s work.
