Conflans Ste Honorine, France Cruise Port

An old shipping town located on the banks of the Seine River, the cruise port of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, France was named after Saint Honorina, the most revered virgin martyr in the Normandy area of France. Her relics have been stored here since 876 (even though they were later moved to a more secure place – a church outside of the town walls – under the watchful eye of the Bishop of Paris). Thanks to its strategic position, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is dotted with barges and is considered the capital of the French inland waterways. Where else does shipping get a holiday? The “Le Pardon National de la Batellerie” is celebrated each June as a reminder of the town's former shipping glory days; although there are still many big ships near the port, the river here is filled with more houseboats than merchant boats. Here are some of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, France:

  • If you've never seen a floating chapel, the Chapelle Je Sers is a unique experience. Originally built in 1919 to transport coal, it was purchased by the Ministry of Public Works in 1936 and set up to provide religious services to maritime workers. Its inscription outside simply says "I serve," which tells you that despite its colorful interior, its function is to take care of spiritual needs.

  • Built in 1085, the Tour Montjoie (Montjoie Tower) is perhaps the town's most popular landmark; it’s on the Seine where it joins with the River Oise. Although only four walls remain intact, it still watches over the waterways and has a charming garden nearby.

  • The Musée de la Batellerie is a museum dedicated to all things shipping. Located in the castle of Conflans Priory, there are multiple themes to explore, such as major technological developments, types of water structures, and the history of France's rivers.

  • Shoppers will be delighted by the plentiful shops and boutiques found around the port. Not only can you find the most fashionable clothing, but also beautiful arts and crafts. When it's time to stop for a bite, there are many nearby cafes and bakeries.
