Pichilingue (La Paz), Mexico Cruise Port

Pichilingue is the major port city in Baja California Sur, Mexico, a bustling city beside the Bay of La Paz and the Baja California peninsula. La Paz, Spanish for peace, is the state capital and most populous city with a population close to 245,000. Its desert climate makes it an ideal place to explore on foot as you bask in the many stunning beaches along the waters. The town center is lively and brimming with friendly locals and interesting restaurants, all in a marvelous stone-built embankment. Off the main drag, hiking and rock climbing are popular activities among the many forested and mountainous trails. Closer to the bay many tourists try their hands at fishing, snorkeling or even scuba diving. And around the picturesque water is a one-mile seaside walkway which offers some of the best views of sailboats, the harbor and beyond.

• The La Paz Cathedral is an historic church built in 1720. The history and architecture of this sturdy, preserved building includes a lot of wood structures reinforced with newer, but often still old materials.
   
• Malecon is a beachside area with a number of impressive sculptures and stunning views of the palm tree lined beaches that are spread out along the area.
