Viking’s ships have conquered the rivers of Europe, the vast oceans, and now with Viking Polaris they are set to explore the rest of the world. An intimate ship, holding just 378 guests, Viking Polaris will feature the clean, Scandinavian design elements for which Viking is known. Guests will have the luxury of enjoying familiar public spaces, like the Explorer’s Lounge, while being treated to experiences that can only be had with Viking Expeditions. For one of these, walk down to the all-new Hangar area, the gateway to your very first Viking expedition cruise. While exploring remote regions, Viking’s expedition cruises stay true to being “the thinking man’s cruise” with unmatched onboard programming. Passengers can attend a lecture from world-renowned experts before a hands-on experience in the onboard laboratory, or an adventure in the expedition vessels (Zodiacs, kayaks, etc.), which are free for use of the guests. - Nordic Balcony Staterooms
Featured in staterooms from 222 to over 1,200 square feet, the Nordic Balcony is a revolutionary way for expedition cruisers to soak in the scenery and look for wildlife. At first glance, these balconies are simply sunrooms with panoramic windows, but the press of a button lowers the glass in front of your eyes to elbow level, where you can sit, protected from the elements, with your binoculars perched in search of polar bears.
- The Laboratory
Viking Resident Scientists have a dedicated area onboard in which Viking Polaris is not a cruise ship, but a research vessel. Guests will be privy to supervised access, where they can engage with experts from Cambridge University as they work on various studies. This is an experience only available with Viking Expeditions.
- Expedition Equipment
On Viking Polaris, there is a variety of expedition equipment onboard to allow cruisers to explore more when they leave the ship. Zodiacs, arctic-tested kayaks and a private submarine are on hand to take guests deep into their destinations. Even better, all the expedition apparel you need is provided. This means boots, parkas, binoculars, waterproof pants and even a comprehensive survival kit are free for use while exploring these remote destinations with Viking Expeditions.
- The Aula & Finse Terrace
The Aula is a breathtaking auditorium that doubles as an entertainment venue and a lecture hall, where panoramic windows and sliding glass doors lead to the Finse Terrace, where lava rock fire pits keep you warm while taking in the sights. Maybe you will get lucky and catch a view of the Northern Lights!
- Nordic Spa
Inspired by the holistic wellness mindset of Scandinavia, this all-new spa is complete with a sauna, a snow grotto, and a warmed hydrotherapy pool lined with panoramic windows.
- Onboard Enrichment
In an effort to be the “thinking man’s expedition,” every voyage on Viking Polaris will be accompanied by a team of over 25 experts on a variety of subjects. Guests can assist researchers in citizen science programs onboard, in which they can aid in the collection of samples, identifying wildlife, or simply accompanying a photographer to learn the best practices for working with remote landscapes. What is that weird bird? Ask an ornithologist from Cornell University!
- Mamsen's
A familiar sight on Viking cruise ships, Mamsen’s is a classic eatery with exquisite cuisine hailing from, you guessed it, Scandinavia.
