Tobago Cays, St. Vincent and Grenadine Cruise Port

Sail through the brilliant Caribbean Sea to find the five-island archipelago and cruise port of Tobago Cays, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Part of the Southern Grenadines, Tobago Cays is also up of extensive coral reefs, making this a diving and snorkeling hotspot. The five coral islands (also called cays) are Petit Rameau, Petit Bateau, Baradal, Petit Tabac and Jamesby, and all are uninhabited. Under private ownership since at least the 16th century, Tobago Cays were purchased by the state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 1999. Once approval was received to expand tourism, Tobago Cays Marine Park was formed, including the inhabited island of Mayreau. Despite having no wetlands, the Cays have a diverse group of flora (consisting mostly of dry forest, grasses, and shrubs) and fauna, including many threatened species. Here are some of our favorite experiences when cruising to Tobago Cays, St. Vincent and the Grenadines:

  • Since the Tobago Cays Marine Park makes up a key element of the islands, many cruise lines will offer shore excursions focusing on exploring the park. Animal enthusiasts will appreciate the many sanctuaries within the Cays, including the Catholic Rock Bird Sanctuary and Baradal Turtle Sanctuary, where various species can breed in a protected environment.

  • For hiking, Petit Bateau, James Bay, and Petit Rameau include trails festooned with an abundance of tropical flora and fauna, including iguanas and colorful birds. You'll also get excellent panoramic views of the rest of the Grenadines.

  • Divers interested in military history can check out the Purunia wreck, the remains of a 140-foot World War II British gunship which sunk in 1918 near Mayreau's western coast. The boat is covered with colorful sponges, and you may find a curious sea turtle or two checking you out.

  • Movie lovers: Petit Tabac includes not only a lovely and isolated beach, it's also the location where the desert island scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl was shot.
