Moreton Island, Australia Cruise Port

Located beside the serene Coral Sea, Moreton Island lies on the eastern side of Moreton Bay off the long, luxurious coast of southeastern Queensland, Australia. With a small population around 300 people, over ninety-five percent of the island’s seventy-two squares miles is comprised of the Moreton Island National Park and Recreation Area. Brisbane is fewer than forty miles to the north of the island and therefore offers a ferry service to and from the scenic oasis—a one-way crossing that takes over an hour. The national park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, along with being a popular destination for recreational tourists. Visitors enjoy camping in the forests, fishing along the shore, and riding 4x4s through the heavy woodland areas to get a better view of all the island has to offer. Another popular activity, especially during peak migration months, is whale watching.

• The Tangalooma Wrecks are an impressive sight to behold, either by gazing down into the clear waters from a kayak, or by seeing the ships up close and personal through underwater exploration.
   
• The Cape Moreton Lighthouse can be easily walked to from the beach. After a brisk climb to the top, you can view the stunning shorelines and ocean from above.
   
• One of the island’s biggest attractions is dolphin feeding. These majestic creatures are docile and trusting of humans, not just instinctively but because the island feeds them well.
   
• Scuba diving and snorkeling are quite popular on and beyond the many beaches because of the warm, clear waters, as well as the underground coral and wrecks to explore.
