Things to Do on a Panama Canal Cruise with Cunard Line

The Panama Canal is an amazing work of human engineering, but it’s also surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes like the Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua and the Pura Vida Gardens in Costa Rica.

• Copalita (Huatulco, Mexico)
  Drive through the beautiful lands of Huatulco on your way to Copalita where in the last 20 years archeologists have found Mayan and Olmeca artifacts. Excavation is still going on and will last for another 40 years or so, according to experts. Right now there are burial sites, pyramid vestiges and a ball court. There is also the Zone Museum which displays specific artifacts.
   

• Nurture and Nature (Limon, Costa Rica)
  Visit the SOS Children’s Village of Limon, which provides a family for children who are without one. Then you head to the Tortuguero Canals, which are surrounded by rainforests. Here you’ll see beautiful birds and flowers like orchids and water lilies. You might also see a variety of wildlife, from monkeys to crocodiles and sloths.
   

• Masaya Volcano and Catarina Viewpoint (San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua)
  Visit the Masaya Volcano National Park with a guide who will discuss this interesting site where you can still see volcanic ash. The area is also home to beautiful, lush vegetation. After this you’ll be taken to the Catarina Viewpoint which overlooks Lake Nicaragua and the Apoyo Lagoon.
   

• Country, Tequila and Town (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)
  As you drive through the countryside of Puerto Vallarta you’ll stop in a local church before heading over to the Hacienda Dona Engracia, a tequila processing plant and ranch. You’ll tour the plantation and try a sample of the Blue Agave Cactus Tequila they produce. Then you’ll go on a guided walk in downtown Puerto Vallarta and visit the Cathedral of Our Lady and stroll along the Malecon promenade.
   

• Forest Skywalk and Pura Vida Gardens (Puntarenas, Costa Rica)
  Walk on suspended cable bridges above the canopy of the forest to get a wonderful perspective of the natural beauty of Costa Rica and the Carara National Park. Then you’ll head to the Pura Vida Gardens, which offer beautiful views of Costa Rica’s coastline, and the Bijagual waterfall. During this Cunard excursion you’ll also partake in lunch at a local restaurant.
   

• Mexican Steam Bath (Huatulco, Mexico)
  Experience the ritual of a Mexican steam bath. These baths are enriched with herbs and plants. You’ll learn about this tradition from a master Temazcalero who will also create a steam with herbs and plants over hot rocks. After this you’ll be treated to a drink and a dip in the Jacuzzi.
