Overview
Nestled on Spain’s southern coast, Malaga offers a perfect blend of old and new. You can wander through ancient Moorish fortresses like the Alcazaba, admire Roman ruins, and then step into sleek modern museums—all within a few blocks. The birthplace of Picasso, the city has a strong creative spirit and plenty of galleries to explore.
Along the waterfront, palm-lined promenades and golden beaches invite you to slow down and soak up the sun. Local chiringuitos (beach bars) serve grilled sardines and cold drinks just steps from the waves. In the city center, lively plazas buzz with tapas, flamenco, and the warmth of southern Spanish hospitality.
Whether you are climbing to the Gibralfaro Castle for sweeping views or simply enjoying a sunset by the sea, Malaga is a city that feels easygoing, colorful, and full of life.

Start your day by stepping back in time at the Alcazaba, a stunning Moorish fortress overlooking the city. Built in the 11th century, this well-preserved castle offers beautiful gardens, scenic walkways, and breathtaking views of Málaga and the Mediterranean coastline. Explore the ancient walls, learn about the history of the region, and take in panoramic views from the top.
Tip: Don’t forget to bring your camera – the views from the Alcazaba are perfect for photos.

Just a short walk from the Alcazaba, you’ll find the Roman Theatre, one of Málaga’s oldest and most impressive historical sites. Built in the 1st century BC, this theatre was rediscovered in the 20th century and is now open to visitors. You can explore the ruins, admire the stone seating area, and learn about the city’s Roman heritage.
Tip: While visiting the Roman Theatre, look for the nearby Bañuelo, a well-preserved ancient Arab bathhouse that offers another glimpse into Málaga’s history.

Málaga is the birthplace of the world-renowned artist Pablo Picasso, and a visit to the Picasso Museum is a must for art lovers. Located in a beautiful 16th-century palace, the museum houses a collection of over 200 works by Picasso, including paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. This is an excellent opportunity to delve into the life and artistry of one of Spain’s greatest cultural icons.
Tip: If you’re short on time, focus on the most iconic works, like “Guernica” and “Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.”

After visiting the Alcazaba and the Picasso Museum, take a leisurely walk through Málaga’s historic center. The charming streets are lined with colorful buildings, beautiful squares, and lively cafés. Don’t miss Plaza de la Constitucion, a lovely square surrounded by cafés and shops, or Calle Larios, the city's main shopping street.
Tip: Pause for a drink at one of the outdoor cafés, and try the local specialty – “tinto de verano” (a refreshing wine-based drink with soda and lemon).
No visit to Málaga is complete without admiring the grandeur of the Málaga Cathedral, known as "La Manquita" due to its unfinished second tower. This stunning Renaissance-style cathedral features intricate interiors, grand altars, and impressive works of art. Climb to the top of the cathedral’s tower for spectacular views over the city.
Tip: Check the opening hours in advance, as the cathedral can get crowded, especially during peak tourist season.

For a taste of local life, head to the Atarazanas Market, a vibrant food market housed in a beautiful 19th-century building. Here you can find fresh produce, meats, seafood, and local delicacies. The colorful stalls are a feast for the eyes, and it’s a great spot to grab some local snacks or ingredients to take home.
Tip: Try some jamon iberico or a tapas platter for a true Spanish culinary experience.

If you’re in the mood to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean sun, La Malagueta Beach is just a short walk from the city center. This popular urban beach offers golden sands, clear waters, and beachside restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood. It’s the perfect place to unwind and take in the stunning views of the sea and coastline.
Tip: If you’re looking for a more tranquil experience, head to the quieter part of the beach or take a walk along the promenade.

Before heading back to your cruise, indulge in some traditional Andalusian cuisine. Málaga is known for its fresh seafood, particularly fried fish (like boquerones and pescado frito). You can also try salmorejo (a cold tomato-based soup) or paella at one of the city’s local restaurants.
Tip: For an authentic experience, try El Pimpi, a popular restaurant in the city center that serves local dishes in a charming, rustic setting.
