Dynjandi, Iceland Cruise Port

Located in the iconic Westfjords of Iceland, Dynjandi is a series of waterfalls, some of which are higher than 330 feet. These mighty falls all stem from the Dynjandi River which flows from the Atlantic Ocean and through northwestern Iceland within the Vestfiroir district, near Arnafjordur fjord. Dynjandi literally means “roaring,” and besides the major waterfalls at its outlets, there are many smaller falls along the river’s great path. The port of Isafjordur is the largest harbor in the Westfjord area and is therefore the natural starting point for most visitors wishing to view this stunning force of nature. The nearby town offers visitors creature comforts such as restaurants, shops, and hotels along with guided tours into the Westfjords to experience the Dynjandi up close and personal. Because of the distance and nature between Isafjordur and Dynjandi, the only non-tour way to travel between the two is by car along a very scenic route.

• Witness the largest waterfall among many with Fjalfoss, which is over 300 feet from top to bottom. A nature reserve since 1981, there are five smaller waterfalls directly below Fjalfoss.
   
• The Vestfirdir Tunnel is a modern marvel of civil engineering and helps travelers navigate the Westfjords by offering three arms to various points of interests in the area.
   
• Visit the Isafjordur Maritime Museum located not far from the harbor for a brief, yet in-depth history of the region’s fishing history. Videos, photos, and props make the exhibits come alive.
   
• Further down from the waterfall area, one can find Vigur Island. Accessible only by boat, this island is great for birdwatchers, especially those interested in beautiful, playful puffins.
