Overview
Alcudia is located on the sunny north coast of Mallorca (Majorca), the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands. The cruise port, Port d'Alcúdia, is a bustling commercial and tourist harbor that provides excellent access to one of the island's most beautiful and historically rich areas. The town is famous for two distinct personalities: the lively, modern port area with its long, shallow beaches, and the stunning Alcudia Old Town, which is surrounded by magnificent, well-preserved medieval walls.
The region offers a perfect blend of history and coastal relaxation. The Old Town, just a short distance from the port, allows visitors to step back in time, walking the narrow, cobbled streets and even climbing the ancient defensive ramparts for panoramic views. Outside the walls lie the ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia, founded in 123 BC. Meanwhile, the coastal areas boast some of Mallorca's best sandy beaches, like Playa de Alcudia and Playa de Muro, known for their crystal-clear, shallow waters perfect for swimming. The natural beauty extends into the Bay of Alcudia and the nearby S'Albufera Natural Park, a protected wetland popular for birdwatching. This port stop is ideal for exploring ancient history, relaxing on the beach, or taking part in exciting water sports and boat excursions.
Visit the Alcudia Old Town and climb onto the 14th-century medieval walls (known as the Murada Medieval). Walking along the top offers incredible views of the town's rooftops, the mountains, and the sea.
Tip: Look for the ancient gates like Porta de Mallorca.
Just outside the medieval walls are the remains of the ancient Roman capital of Mallorca, Pollentia. Explore the residential areas, the forum, and the small Roman Theatre.
Tip: Check opening times, as some areas may close early.
Head to the nearby Playa de Alcudia or Playa de Muro. These beaches feature long stretches of soft, white sand and very shallow, clear water, making them great for families and swimming.
Tip: You can easily rent sunbeds or try out fun water activities like paddleboarding.
Book a sunrise or morning boat trip from Port d'Alcúdia to see wild dolphins swimming and playing in their natural habitat in the Bay of Pollença or near Cap de Formentor.
Tip: Sunrise trips are often the best for spotting wildlife and watching the beautiful colors over the water.
If your cruise stops on a Tuesday or Sunday, visit the huge open-air market held within the Old Town walls. You can find everything from fresh local food and produce to souvenirs and handmade goods.
Tip: Go early to avoid the biggest crowds!
Hop on a catamaran or a smaller boat tour to explore beautiful coastal areas like Coll Baix Beach or the dramatic cliffs of Cap de Formentor. These trips often include stops for swimming, snorkeling, and exploring sea caves.
Tip: Wear your swimsuit under your clothes so you’re ready for a dip in the Mediterranean Sea!
