One of the most famous and challenging hikes in the Marquesas is the 10-mile trail from Omoa to the village of Hanavave (Bay of Virgins). The all-day trek takes you through lush rainforest and over a mountain pass, rewarding you with spectacular views of the fjord and the unique "Stone Sentinels" rock formations in Hanavave.
Tip: This hike is strenuous and requires a high level of fitness. A guided tour is strongly recommended.
With a local guide, you can seek out the ancient Marquesan petroglyphs carved into rocks near the village. These carvings are remnants of the island's pre-European history and offer a fascinating glimpse into the culture and mythology of the ancient Marquesan people.

The waters of the bay in Omoa are calm, clear, and inviting. Take some time to go for a swim or do some snorkeling directly from the shore near where your tender lands. The marine life is not as abundant as on a coral reef, but the clear water is refreshing.
Tip: Bring your own snorkeling gear as there are no rental facilities.
