Tip: Guided tours are informative and often provide humorous anecdotes about Hemingway's life in Key West. Allow at least an hour for your visit.
Take a photo at the iconic Southernmost Point Buoy, marking the southernmost point in the continental United States. It's a quintessential Key West photo opportunity, located at the corner of Whitehead and South Streets.
Tip: There's often a line, especially in the morning and around sunset. Be patient, or visit early in the day for fewer crowds.
Immerse yourself in the lively energy of Duval Street, Key West's most famous thoroughfare. Lined with bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries, and historic buildings, it's the heart of the island's nightlife and tourist activity.
Tip: Explore both day and night, as the atmosphere changes dramatically. Don't be afraid to venture off Duval to explore quieter side streets.
Wander along the Historic Seaport, also known as Harbor Walk. This picturesque area offers bustling marinas, seafood restaurants, charter fishing boats, and shops. It's a great place to watch boats, enjoy fresh seafood, and book water excursions.
Tip: Many snorkeling, diving, fishing, and sunset cruises depart from here. Enjoy a meal with a waterfront view.
Spend time at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. This park offers not only a historic Civil War-era fort but also one of Key West's best natural beaches (a mix of coral and sand) for swimming and snorkeling. It's also a great spot for birdwatching and picnicking.
Tip: Bring water shoes for the rocky beach. The park has good snorkeling directly from shore, especially around the rocks near the fort. There's an entrance fee per vehicle or person.
