Holy Loch, Scotland Cruise Port

“Loch” is the Scottish word for lake, or sea inlet, and Holy Loch is one of the finest natural harbors in Scotland. This port is located on the Cowal Peninsula in the southwestern part of the country, boasting breathtaking views of the rolling hills for which Scotland is known. The small town has deep maritime history, and was once home to one of the top wooden yacht building yards of the 20th century, Robertson’s Yard. In 104 years, the yard was responsible for the construction of over 500 seaworthy vessels, including two America’s Cup competitors, most of which are still in operation today. Whether you’re a yachtsman, or just looking to enjoy the lush scenery, Holy Loch, Scotland is brimming with stunning views and interesting activities. Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Holy Loch:

  • Browse through a variety of intricate chainsaw art, or get the chance to watch expert craftsmen carve sculptures from locally sourced wood.
  • Featuring over 300 species of Rhododendron, the Benmore Botanic Gardens offers an oasis for cruisers, and mountaintop views of Holy Loch.
  • Holy Loch is located near the Firth of Clyde, where HMS Vandal, a Royal Navy Submarine, was lost, and now is a popular scuba diving site called Wreckspeditions.
  • Stunning views of the Clyde River and centuries of history from the area await at the Castle House Museum in Dunoon, just a short trip from Holy Loch.
