Cape Liberty Cruise Port, located on the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, New Jersey, serves as the premier departure point for cruises from the New York metropolitan area. Unlike ports directly in the city, Cape Liberty is known for its efficient terminal and, most importantly, the breathtaking, up-close sailing experience. As your ship pulls away, you are treated to unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline, the New York Harbor, and Lady Liberty herself—it’s the highlight of the embarkation day!
Although the port is technically in New Jersey, it offers easy access to the historical sites of Jersey City and the world-famous attractions of New York City (Manhattan), allowing you to explore two states in one stop. Cape Liberty is a major hub for cruises heading to the warm waters of Bermuda and the Caribbean, as well as the beautiful autumn colors and history of Canada and New England.
This is the closest and most spectacular spot near the port for viewing the Statue of Liberty and the massive Manhattan skyline. You can walk along the waterfront promenade and visit the poignant Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial.
Tip: You can easily get ferry tickets here to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Take a short ferry trip to Liberty Island to see the Statue up close, and then visit Ellis Island to learn about the incredible history of immigration in the United States.
Tip: Book your tickets for the ferry well in advance, especially if you want to go inside the pedestal or crown.
Take the PATH train into Manhattan and spend the afternoon enjoying the park. You can see famous spots like Bethesda Terrace, rent a rowboat on the lake, or just relax on the Great Lawn.
Tip: Central Park is huge! Decide which section you want to visit first to save walking time.
This huge indoor outlet mall near Newark Airport is a great spot to find bargains. Plus, New Jersey offers tax-free shopping on clothing and shoes, which is perfect for picking up some cruise gear or souvenirs!

For a thrilling, bird's-eye view of the entire city, head to Midtown Manhattan and ride the elevator up to the famous observation deck of the Empire State Building.
Tip: Going just before sunset offers amazing photos of the city in both daylight and nighttime.
The PATH subway system connects New Jersey to Manhattan efficiently. It’s an adventure just riding the subway! You can connect to the PATH from the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (get off at the 34th Street station and then take a short taxi/rideshare to the port).
Tip: Keep track of which line you need and make sure to buy a MetroCard to pay your fare.
