The birthplace of famed composer, Ludwig Van Beethoven, the Federal city of Bonn, Germany is a sizeable cruise destination with a population over 300,000. Along with Berlin, it serves as the country’s governmental seat and is where Germany’s president and its chancellor reside. It’s also the southernmost stop of the Rhine-Rhur region which has a whopping 11 million residents and is Germany’s largest metropolitan area. Founded in the first century BC by the Romans, placing it among the country’s oldest cities, Bonn possesses an old-fashioned romantic charisma. The small Old Town district offers shopping, cafes, and light walking tours. Also, many of the attractions are in walking distance despite the city’s great size. The view is second to none, with many unable to resist the picturesque Rhine Valley and the Siebengebirge (or Sieben Mountains).
