While an exact date for the birth of Battle Harbour, Canada has not been established, it is known that the John Slade & Company of Poole, England was using the island in 1771. At that time, being located on the southeast coast of Labrador, Battle Harbour was the cruise port for ships heading up north. Battle Harbour soon became the unofficial capital of Labrador and was used for a long time as a great source of cod. Nowadays, this National Historic District of Canada has been restored as a place to immerse yourself in the traditional life and times of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
