Oceania Sonata

Oceania Sonata is 28% larger than Oceania Allura and Oceania Vista, but carries only 16% more guests.

Add two new restaurants, a suite inventory that now makes up a third of the ship, and public spaces expanded in direct response to guest feedback, and the first Sonata Class ship isn't just bigger. It's a deliberate evolution of what Oceania guests already love.

Here's what's actually different and what it means for your next voyage.

More Space, Fewer Crowds

While the Oceania Sonata is 28% larger than its predecessors, it welcomes only 16% more guests. The result is a space-to-guest ratio of 61.8—a benchmark that puts it in territory typically reserved for ultra-luxury lines, at Oceania's price point.

Where you'll notice it most:

  • Terrace Cafe, Aquamar Kitchen, and outdoor dining areas are all larger
  • Lync Digital Center nearly doubled in size
  • Full-height atrium with skylight replaces the traditional two-story design

The Allura Class does hold a slight edge in passenger-to-crew ratio (1.50 to 1 vs. 1.63 to 1). But with 33% of Oceania Sonata's crew dedicated to suites, a larger share of the 855-person crew fills high-touch roles such as butlers and concierge staff. For suite guests, the service may actually feel more personal, not less.

The Suite Evolution

One of the biggest differences between the two ship classes is the suite inventory. While suites account for roughly 25% of accommodations on Oceania Allura and Vista, that number jumps to 33% on Oceania Sonata (the highest density in the fleet).

Oceania has said its ships consistently sell from the top down, so the expanded inventory is a direct response to demand. Two entirely new categories debut on Oceania Sonata:

  • Horizon Suite (600+ sq. ft.): Positioned between the Penthouse and Oceania Suite, this category offers a true residential feel. It features distinct living and bedroom areas, a walk-through wardrobe, and a massive veranda equipped with outdoor dining furniture.
  • Penthouse Deluxe Suite (488 sq. ft.): This bridges the space gap for guests wanting more than a standard penthouse. It offers a larger footprint and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that create a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.

The Ultimate Upgrade: Two-Bedroom Owner's Suites

For the first time in Oceania’s history, the Owner’s Suites have been reimagined as true multi-room residences.

Oceania Sonata features four of these 2,500+ square foot "palaces at sea." Located on the aft corners of Decks 10 and 11, each now includes two full bedrooms and two full bathrooms, along with 180-degree wraparound views.

Dining: What’s New, What’s Returning

A close up of a wheel of parmesan cheese, with a fine dining tables and wine bottles blurred in the background.

Oceania Cruises has built its global reputation on "The Finest Cuisine at Sea," and the Oceania Sonata takes that legacy to a new crescendo. To ensure perfection on every plate, Oceania maintains an unrivaled 1-to-8 chef-to-guest ratio, with fully half of the ship’s 855 crew members dedicated to culinary excellence.

On Oceania Sonata, this commitment translates into 10+ dining venues, featuring two brand-new concepts that elevate the onboard experience.

The New Headlines

  • La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France: This is the most exclusive fine-dining venue at sea. With only 18 seats, it is the only restaurant on any cruise ship to carry the prestigious seal of the Maîtres Cuisiniers de France. Guests can enjoy rotating menus from world-renowned Master Chefs or book the signature Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course tasting menu paired with three vintage Champagnes. (Surcharge applies; Reservations required.)
  • Nikkei Kitchen: Included in your fare, this debut venue celebrates the vibrant fusion of Japanese technique and Peruvian flavors. From fresh seafood and bright citrus to bold peppers and soy-based glazes, it offers a modern, airy atmosphere with an open kitchen. (No reservations required; First-come, first-served.)

Returning Favorites (All Included, No Cover Charges)

Every signature venue that defined the Allura Class returns with refined elegance:

  • The Grand Dining Room: Global and continental classics.
  • Jacques: Chef Jacques Pépin’s legendary French bistro.
  • Polo Grill: The ultimate classic steakhouse.
  • Red Ginger: Masterful Pan-Asian flavors.
  • Toscana: Authentic, high-end Tuscan Italian.
  • Terrace Cafe & Aquamar Kitchen: For international buffets and wellness-inspired breakfasts and lunches.

Beyond the Menu

Oceania Sonata also expands the line’s signature beverage and pairing programs. These experiences are designed for guests who want to go deeper into the world of fine spirits and vintage wines:

  • Exclusive Pairings: Sommelier-led pairing lunches, the Moët & Chandon Champagne Experience, and the multi-course Gérard Bertrand Food & Wine Pairing.
  • Spirit Masterclasses: The Macallan Rituals (tableside whisky service), Brugal 1888 rum masterclasses, and an Ultimate Bloody Mary Bar.
  • The Bubbly Bar: Located at Baristas, offering a curated selection of sparkling wines and Champagne cocktails throughout the day.

Bars, Lounges & Public Spaces

Oceania Sonata introduces a new rhythm to social life at sea by debuting an entirely new lounge concept while reimagining the signature spaces Oceania guests have come to love.

Opus Lounge: The Sonata Class Debut

The Opus Lounge is exclusive to the Sonata Class and serves as the ship's premier social destination. By day, it is a serene "living room" environment adjacent to the Library—perfect for quiet reading or conversation. By evening, it transforms into a sophisticated cocktail hub featuring:

  • Signature Mixology: Barrel-aged Negronis, vapor-infused cocktails, and tableside preparations.
  • Premium Spirits: A curated collection of rare bourbons, ryes, and a dedicated The Macallan selection.

Signature Social Spaces

  • Sonata Lounge: A state-of-the-art performance venue with enhanced acoustics designed for Broadway-style productions, guest speakers, and cabaret.
  • Horizons: The classic forward-facing observation lounge. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, it remains the home of the daily Afternoon Tea service and late-night dancing.
  • Martinis: A glamorous, hallmark lounge that maintains its reputation for the most iconic cocktail menu at sea.
  • Grand Lounge & Waves Bar: Whether you prefer the private-club feel of the Grand Lounge or a poolside spritz at the Waves Bar, the ship offers a venue for every mood.

Enrichment & Wellness

On Oceania Sonata, "lifestyle" isn't just a buzzword—it's built into the architecture. The ship's layout has been strategically adjusted to maximize views and space.

Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center

The most significant change is the relocation of the Aquamar Spa to the aft of the ship. This allows sweeping 180-degree views of the wake from the treatment rooms and fitness center.

  • The Spa Terrace: Exclusive to Concierge Level and above, this outdoor oasis features plunge pools, whirlpools, and heated stone loungers overlooking the ship's wake.

Hands-On Learning & Tech

  • Lync Digital Center: Nearly doubled in size, a sign that Oceania is leaning into the modern traveler who wants to document their voyage professionally. Complimentary classes cover travel photography, smartphone videography, social media essentials, and advanced editing.
  • The Culinary Center & Chef's Studio: A dedicated space for hands-on cooking classes and the starting point for Culinary Discovery Tours in port.
  • Artist Loft: A creative sanctuary for guided workshops in painting, drawing, and sculpture.

On Deck: Recreation & Play

The top decks of Oceania Sonata are designed for both relaxation and active play. Along with a central pool featuring private cabanas, guests can enjoy:

  • Sports Courts: Dedicated areas for Pickleball, paddle tennis, bocce, and croquet.
  • Active Recreation: A full fitness track, putting greens, and traditional shuffleboard.

Which Ship Is Right for You?

Both ship classes deliver Oceania’s hallmark experience: an intimate scale, all-veranda accommodations, The Finest Cuisine at Sea®, and destination-rich itineraries designed for travelers who value cultural immersion over crowds. The choice ultimately comes down to your personal travel style.
