Norwegian Cruise Line's Prima Class turned heads when it launched in 2022 with a sleek, boutique-style design unlike anything in the fleet. But guests had feedback: popular areas felt tight, seating was limited at peak times, and the signature go-kart track cost $15 per ride.

NCL listened. The Prima Plus Class ships, Norwegian Aqua (2025) and Norwegian Luna (2026), are 10% larger and directly address those pain points with more space, more seating, more complimentary thrills, and new dining options.

Here's what changed, what stayed, and which class is right for you.

The Feel

Boutique, intimate, can feel tight at peak times

Expanded public spaces, more seating, better crowd flow

The extra 91 feet of length gave NCL room to add seating, open up public spaces, and redesign the top deck, all based on guest feedback from the original ships.

Go-Kart Track vs. Aqua Slidecoaster: What Changed on Top Deck

An aerial view of the new hybrid coaster and water slide, called "Aqua Slide Coaster", aboard Norwegian Aqua.

The most visible change between the two classes is the "crown" of the ship.

  • Prima Speedway (Prima Class): A high-octane, three-level go-kart track. While a fan favorite, it carries a $15 per ride fee and occupies a massive amount of deck real estate.
  • Aqua Slidecoaster (Prima Plus): A first-of-its-kind hybrid roller coaster and waterslide. It is complimentary, handles more guests per hour, and sits on a smaller footprint. This allowed NCL to add the Glow Court (digital sports complex) and a dedicated pickleball court in the space saved.

Sukhothai is NCL's first dedicated Thai restaurant, taking over the Food Republic space with traditional curries, stir-fries, and street food-inspired dishes. NCL has said the decision was inspired by guest demand, since pad thai was the most popular dish at the Indulge Food Hall on Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.

Because the ships are longer, favorites like Hudson's, The Commodore Room, and the Indulge Food Hall have significantly more tables, reducing the wait times guests experienced on the original Prima Class.

The aft-facing layout puts the Haven lounge and pool overlooking the ship's wake, giving better wind protection and uninterrupted ocean views, which was a crowd complaint of the Prima Class Haven.

The biggest change: Both the top deck Speedways and Slidecoaster are replaced by Ocean Heights, a multi-deck activity zone spanning Decks 18 through 21 with five waterslides, NCL's first dueling mat racer, a floor-drop slide, a ropes course, and an outdoor carnival-style midway. The Haven grows to 159 suites, the pool deck is 20% larger than Norwegian Aqua, and Ocean Boulevard gets another 11% of added space.

Maiden voyage sails May 21, 2027, from Trieste, Italy, to Barcelona, then she heads to Miami for Caribbean rotations.
