Manama, Bahrain Cruise Port

For diversity and adventure, cruising to the “place of dreams” known as the port of Manama, Bahrain fulfills these criteria – and more. The modern capital of this Persian Gulf island nation, it's been an important trade route since ancient times; the area itself has been inhabited by people since at least the Bronze Age (around 3000 B.C.). With Portuguese and Persian invasions causing unrest, Bahrain became an independent nation in the 19th century. By the early 1920s, Manama became the trade capital, creating a gateway to the main Bahrain Island. When oil came into the picture as an important resource, the city established itself as a Middle East financial hub. Along with banking and finance, tourism is growing in popularity. Its flat landscape and warm, dry climate – along with 33 other islands nearby – are perfect for outdoor activities. Here some of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Manama, Bahrain:

  • For local history, visit the Bahrain National Museum, is the largest and one of the oldest public museums in the city. Here you'll find ancient artefacts and other cultural items of note. The building itself also houses nine other original galleries along with a cafeteria for a bite after browsing.

  • The Al Fateh Grand Mosque is not only the largest place of worship in Bahrain, but also it's one of the largest mosques in the world. With its Italian marble floors, Austrian chandelier, and Indian teak wood door, it's one of the premier tourist attractions in the city.

  • Located in the Customs Square you'll find Bab Al Bahrain, a historical building that leads to the main entrance to the Manama Souq (the city's old bazaar). As well as being a lovely piece of architecture, you can find a tourist information office and handicrafts shop on the ground floor.

  • When it's time to relax in the sunshine, get away from the city to Al Dar Islands Bahrain. This beach area is great for swimming or snorkeling along the artificial reef, along with other water activities. There's also a restaurant onsite; you can eat there, or have your food brought out to you.
