This bustling area is a labyrinth of narrow alleys, street food stalls, souvenir shops, and the spiritual heart of the city's Hui Muslim community. Within the quarter, visit the serene Great Mosque of Xi'an, a unique architectural blend of traditional Chinese and Islamic styles, one of the oldest and largest mosques in China.
Tip: Come hungry! The Muslim Quarter is a food paradise; try local specialties like roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), liangpi (cold noodles), and various skewers.
Stand majestically in the city center, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower are iconic symbols of Xi'an. Climb to the top of both (they are separate structures) for excellent views of the surrounding city and to admire their traditional architecture and the ancient bells and drums they house.
Tip: Consider visiting in the evening when both towers are beautifully illuminated, offering a magical sight and often traditional performances.
Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a magnificent Buddhist pagoda built in 652 AD during the Tang Dynasty. This important structure was built to house Buddhist sutras and relics brought back from India by the Buddhist monk Xuanzang. Climb to its top for sweeping views.
Tip: In the evening, enjoy the spectacular musical fountain show in front of the pagoda, often considered the largest in Asia.
