Begin your visit in the heart of the city at the Old Town Market Square. This magnificent square is one of the largest in Europe and is surrounded by colorful, historic townhouses and the stunning Gothic Old Town Hall. It's a perfect place to people-watch, enjoy a meal, or simply admire the architecture.
Tip: Visit the Piwnica Świdnicka, one of the oldest restaurants in Europe, located in the Old Town Hall's cellar.
Wrocław is famous for its tiny gnome (or dwarf) statues. There are over 600 of these whimsical figures scattered throughout the city, each with its own unique story. Hunting for them has become a favorite pastime for visitors of all ages.
Tip: You can pick up a gnome map at a local tourist office to help you on your quest, or simply keep your eyes peeled as you wander.
Walk across one of the bridges to Cathedral Island, the oldest part of Wrocław. This serene and historic area is home to the magnificent Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. In the evening, the island's gas lamps are still lit by a lamplighter, creating a romantic, old-world atmosphere.
Tip: Take the elevator to the top of the cathedral tower for a panoramic view of the city.
To truly appreciate the "Venice of Poland" title, take a river cruise on the Oder. These short boat trips offer a unique perspective of the city's islands, bridges, and historic landmarks. It's a relaxing way to see the city from a different angle.
Tip: Evening or sunset cruises are especially beautiful, as the city's lights reflect on the water.
For one of the best views of the city, climb the 247 steps to the top of the Bridge of Penitents (also known as the Witches' Bridge) at St. Mary Magdalene Church. According to legend, the figures on the bridge are the souls of gossiping women.
Tip: This climb is not for the faint of heart, but the views of the Old Town rooftops are well worth the effort.
The Wrocław University, with its grand Baroque architecture, is a highlight. Its most famous room is the Aula Leopoldina, a stunningly decorated ceremonial hall that is a masterpiece of Baroque art and sculpture.
Tip: Look for the smaller Oratorium Marianum and the Mathematical Tower, which also offer fantastic views of the city.
