Overview

For the most iconic view of Trinidad's colorful rooftops, climb the bell tower of the Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco (Church and Convent of Saint Francis). While the church itself is now a museum of the fight against bandits, the tower offers a quintessential postcard view of the city and the surrounding mountains and sea.
Tip: The climb is a bit steep but well worth the effort for the breathtaking panoramic views.
Take a short excursion to the Valle de los Ingenios, a UNESCO World Heritage site just outside of Trinidad. This valley was once the center of Cuba’s sugar production and is dotted with the remnants of dozens of sugar mills. It provides a deeper understanding of the wealth that built Trinidad and the slavery that fueled it.
Tip: Visit the Manaca Iznaga Tower, a 150-foot watchtower used to oversee slaves working in the sugarcane fields, and climb to the top for a view of the entire valley.
As the sun begins to set, head to the Casa de la Música, a lively outdoor venue located on a grand staircase next to the Plaza Mayor. Locals and tourists gather here to listen to live Cuban music, dance to salsa and rumba, and sip a classic canchanchara (a local cocktail made with rum, lime, honey, and water).
Tip: This spot provides an authentic and high-energy look at Cuban music and dance culture. It’s a must-do for a true taste of Trinidad.
