Embark on a scenic hike up to Fort Napoléon des Saintes, a beautifully restored 19th-century fortress perched high above the bay. Tip: The walk up is steep but rewarding; consider renting an electric bike or scooter in town for an easier ascent. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Fort Napoléon is typically open from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM daily (confirm current hours). There is an entrance fee, around €5.
Head to Plage de Pompierre, considered one of Terre-de-Haut's most beautiful and popular beaches. This tranquil bay features calm, turquoise waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with shady palm trees and "carbets" (small picnic shelters) for relaxation.
Tip: It's a pleasant walk from the main village, or a short taxi/scooter ride. There may be a small snack bar available.
Wander through the picturesque Bourg des Saintes village, the heart of Terre-de-Haut. Its charming streets are lined with colorful Creole houses, small boutiques selling local crafts and French cosmetics, and inviting open-air cafés. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and soak in the unique blend of French and Caribbean influences.
Tip: Take time to browse the small shops and enjoy a coffee or a local "planteur" (rum punch) at a café overlooking the harbor.
Seek out the secluded Pain de Sucre Beach, known for its beautiful white sand and excellent snorkeling opportunities. This small cove, nestled below a distinctive sugarloaf hill, offers crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life.
Tip: The walk to Pain de Sucre involves a somewhat rugged path. While stunning, it can get busy. Arrive early for a more peaceful experience. Bring your own snorkel gear if possible.
Given the island's small size and light traffic, renting a scooter or electric bike is a popular way to explore beyond the main village. It allows you to easily reach more distant beaches, viewpoints, and hidden coves at your own pace.
