Tip: The fort is a significant historical site and offers the best vantage points for photos of the town and harbor. It's an uphill walk or a short taxi ride from the port.
Take a leisurely stroll through the Scarborough Botanical Garden, located just uphill from the main town area. This serene green space offers a peaceful oasis with a variety of local plants, trees, and colorful flowers, providing a relaxing escape from the bustling town.
Tip: It's a pleasant walk from the cruise terminal and offers a shaded retreat, perfect for a short, relaxing break.
Head to one of Tobago's most famous and beautiful beaches. Store Bay is closer to the port and very lively, with vendors and facilities. Pigeon Point Beach, a bit further, is iconic for its long jetty and calm, clear turquoise waters, ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
Tip: Both beaches offer facilities, water sports rentals, and local food vendors. Taxis are readily available to transport you. Pigeon Point typically has an entrance fee.
Embark on a popular glass-bottom boat tour from Store Bay or Pigeon Point to the Buccoo Reef, a protected marine park teeming with vibrant coral and fish. The tour usually includes a stop at the famous Nylon Pool, a shallow, clear-water sandbar in the middle of the ocean where legend says bathing makes you younger.
Tip: This is a quintessential Tobago experience. Bring your swimsuit and be prepared to get wet if you want to swim in the Nylon Pool or snorkel.
Journey to the lush interior to find Argyle Waterfall, Tobago's highest waterfall. Enjoy a scenic hike through the rainforest to reach the multi-tiered falls, where you can take a refreshing dip in the natural pools below.
Tip: This requires a taxi or organized tour. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for a nature walk. Local guides are often available to enhance the experience.
Immerse yourself in local life by exploring the Scarborough Municipal Market. This vibrant market is a sensory delight, filled with fresh local produce, spices, seafood, and handicrafts. It's an excellent place to observe daily life and interact with friendly Tobagonians.
Tip: Visit in the morning for the widest selection and liveliest atmosphere. It's a great spot to find unique, authentic souvenirs and taste local fruits.
