Overview
Page, Arizona, is a small city with a colossal landscape. Explore the world-famous Antelope Canyon, a stunning slot canyon famous for its narrow, winding walls and incredible light beams that shine down from above. This is a sacred site on Navajo Nation land, and access is only available with a Navajo guide.
Tip: There are two main sections: Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. Upper is known for its light beams (best seen midday) and is flatter, while Lower is deeper, narrower, and requires climbing stairs and ladders. Book your tour well in advance as spots sell out quickly.
Witness the dramatic and iconic Horseshoe Bend, a stunning, 270-degree curve in the Colorado River. A short hike from the parking lot leads to an incredible overlook with sheer cliff walls, offering a breathtaking view of the river's emerald green waters below.
Tip: The best times for photos are during the morning or late afternoon to avoid harsh shadows and the intense midday sun. Bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes for the walk.
Experience the beauty of the region from the water on a local boat tour on Lake Powell. These tours, which often depart from Wahweap or Antelope Point Marina, take you through the winding canyons of the reservoir, providing unique views of the submerged landscape and opportunities to explore hidden coves.
Tip: Some tours, like the Scenic Canyon Cruise or the Antelope Canyon Boat Tour, are excellent for getting a different perspective on the region's famous geology.
Learn about the history and engineering marvel of the Glen Canyon Dam, which created Lake Powell. The Carl Hayden Visitor Center offers exhibits, information, and incredible views of the dam and the Colorado River. You can even take a guided tour of the dam itself.
Tip: Check the dam tour schedule in advance. The visitor center is also a great place to get advice from park rangers on hiking trails and other local attractions.
For a more active and intimate exploration, rent a kayak or paddleboard and paddle into the peaceful slot canyons. This is a fantastic way to navigate the serene waters, get up close to the towering red rock walls, and find your own secluded slice of paradise.
Tip: Guided kayaking tours are available for those who want an expert to lead the way and provide information on the area's history and geology.
