Overview
The Oki Islands are a group of four main islands—Dōgo, Nishinoshima, Nakanoshima (Ama), and Chiburijima—located off the coast of Shimane Prefecture in the Sea of Japan. These islands form part of the Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark, known for their dramatic volcanic terrain, sea cliffs, and cultural significance. The islands are sparsely populated, with around 8,000 residents, and have preserved traditional lifestyles centered around fishing, farming, and folklore.
