An Arctic‑circle islet where glaciated peaks, still fjord waters, and soft midnight‑sun light create one of Nordland's most atmospheric expedition landscapes.

Overview
Nordfjordholmen is a tiny, uninhabited islet in the Melfjord, deep in Norway's Arctic Nordland county, where steep glaciated peaks rise straight from dark, still water. Part of Rødøy municipality near the island of Rødøya, it sits within a maze of skerries and narrow fjord arms shaped by ancient ice. There are no roads, no docks, and no villages—only expedition ships and Zodiacs, which began calling here with Silversea's 2021 Arctic voyage. In summer the midnight sun circles the horizon, white-tailed eagles ride the updrafts, and the ice-blue mass of the Svartisen glacier region looms nearby.
What defines Nordfjordholmen is its balance of raw Arctic exposure and profound, almost sacred stillness. You move from the warm hum of the expedition ship to silent Zodiac drifts beneath towering cliffs, from bright midnight-sun evenings to the soft grey-blue light of Arctic mornings, and from open-water crossings to sheltered coves where seals haul out on the rocks. The terrain is vertical and elemental, the atmosphere hushed, and the scenery humbling in its scale. It's a destination where wilderness, light, and solitude meet at the edge of the map.
A narrow-water expedition through the fjord's inner arms, beneath waterfalls and sheer cliff walls.
Tip: Sit near the front of the Zodiac for the clearest photographs.
The Arctic sun circling the horizon, gilding peaks and water in unearthly gold.
Tip: The hour around midnight offers the softest, most dramatic light.
Europe's largest eagle soars over the fjords here, often mobbed by gulls and ravens.
Tip: Scan the cliff ledges with binoculars during calm mornings.
Norway's second-largest ice cap dominates the inland skyline, its outlet tongues glowing blue.
Tip: The clearest glacier views come on crisp, cloudless mornings.
The distinctive peak of Rødøy island rising across the water, best at dusk.
Tip: Photograph it from the ship's stern as you sail north.
Tiny pocket beaches where expedition landings reveal Arctic wildflowers and driftwood.
Tip: Wear sturdy waterproof boots for the rocky landings.
