Nagoya is famous for its distinct food culture, known as Nagoya-meshi. Be sure to try local specialties such as Miso Katsu (deep-fried pork cutlet with a rich miso sauce), Hitsumabushi (grilled eel served in three different ways), and Tebasaki (Nagoya-style fried chicken wings).
Tip: The Osu Shopping District is an excellent place to find a variety of authentic local eateries and taste some of these unique dishes.
Located on the former residence grounds of the Owari Tokugawa family, the Tokugawa Art Museum houses an incredible private collection of samurai treasures. On display are exquisite armor, swords, calligraphy, and tea ceremony utensils, providing a fascinating glimpse into the life and wealth of this powerful clan.
Tip: The museum is adjacent to the beautiful Tokugawa Garden, a traditional Japanese landscape garden perfect for a relaxing stroll after your visit.
As the heart of Japan's automotive industry, Nagoya is home to several museums dedicated to the legacy of Toyota. If you prefer to stay close to the port, the Garden Pier area is a destination in itself. It features the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, which is one of the best in Japan, the Antarctic Icebreaker Fuji Museum, and an observatory with great views. The Kinjo Pier area is also home to LEGOLAND Japan Resort.
