Mostar is a city of contrasts and resilience in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

4.9/5 ⭐Google 600+ Reviews | A+ Better Business Bureau

Overview
Mostar, a captivating city nestled in a valley of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a cultural treasure defined by its dramatic landscapes and a rich history where East and West converge. At the heart of the city lies the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a magnificent stone arch bridge that spans the emerald-green waters of the Neretva River. Rebuilt after its destruction in the 1990s, the bridge stands as a powerful symbol of reconciliation, resilience, and cultural heritage, earning its place as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
A visit to Mostar offers a profoundly moving and culturally enriching experience. While not a cruise port, it is a highly popular and convenient overland excursion from nearby cruise ports in Croatia. Exploring Mostar’s cobblestone streets, vibrant bazaars, and beautiful architecture allows one to step into a world where Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Mediterranean influences create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.
The centerpiece of any visit to Mostar is the Stari Most. Walk across this elegant stone bridge, which connects the city’s two sides, and take in the spectacular views of the Neretva River and the bustling Old Town. It's an iconic photo opportunity and a chance to witness one of the world's most famous bridges.
Tip: Throughout the day, local divers often perform daring dives from the bridge into the river below for tips from tourists. It's a thrilling sight to watch.
Wander through the narrow, winding cobblestone streets of the Old Town (Kujundžiluk), a lively bazaar where you can find handcrafted copper items, rugs, leather goods, and other souvenirs. The vibrant atmosphere and traditional architecture of the market streets make for a delightful cultural experience.
Tip: The cobblestones can be very slippery, especially when wet or worn smooth. Wear comfortable, non-slip footwear to navigate the streets safely.
Climb the minaret of the 17th-century Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque for one of the most stunning panoramic views of the Stari Most and the entire Old Town. The mosque itself, with its beautiful dome and tranquil courtyard, is an excellent example of Ottoman architecture.
Tip: A small entrance fee is required to climb the minaret. Be aware that the staircase is narrow and steep.
Visit a traditional Ottoman-era home, such as Bišćevića House (the "Turkish House"), to get a glimpse into how wealthy families lived during the 17th and 18th centuries. The houses are often furnished with authentic artifacts and feature beautiful wooden balconies overlooking the river.
Tip: These small, family-run museums offer a personal and intimate look into Mostar’s history and are a peaceful escape from the busy streets.
Indulge in delicious local Bosnian and Balkan cuisine at one of the many restaurants in the Old Town. Be sure to try the ćevapi (grilled minced meat served in flatbread), burek (a savory pastry), and baklava for dessert.
Tip: Find a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Neretva River for an unforgettable dining experience with a view of the Stari Most.
Take a short walk from the Stari Most to the much smaller but equally charming Kriva Ćuprija (Crooked Bridge). This miniature stone bridge is a beautiful photo op and is believed to have been a trial run for the construction of the larger Stari Most.
Tip: This bridge is a great spot to take a picture of the Neretva River and the smaller, quieter section of the Old Town.
