The clear, cold waters of Lake Tahoe are perfect for a variety of water sports. You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis, or speedboats to explore the coves and beaches. Sailing and fishing charters are also popular options.
Tip: The calmer waters of the morning are best for paddleboarding and kayaking, while the afternoon is often ideal for sailing and motorized water sports.
In the winter, Lake Tahoe transforms into a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding. With over a dozen resorts around the lake, including popular spots like Heavenly, Squaw Valley (now Palisades Tahoe), and Northstar, there are runs for all skill levels.
Tip: Check the resort's websites for snow conditions and lift ticket deals before you go.
A drive around the entire perimeter of the lake on Highway 89 and Highway 28 is a classic way to experience its beauty. The approximately 72-mile journey offers countless viewpoints, from the rugged cliffs of the west shore to the sandy beaches of the east.
Tip: Allow a full day for the drive to make plenty of stops at scenic overlooks, small towns, and hidden beaches.
For those on the Nevada side of the lake (in cities like Stateline and Crystal Bay), an evening at one of the casinos offers a different kind of entertainment. You can try your luck at the tables, enjoy a live show, or dine at one of the many restaurants.
Tip: The South Lake Tahoe area has the largest concentration of resorts and casinos, offering a vibrant nightlife.
From easy lakeside paths to challenging mountain trails, Lake Tahoe is a hiker's and biker's paradise. The Tahoe Rim Trail is a famous option for long-distance hikers, while trails near the lake offer accessible paths with stunning views.
