Take a short boat ride (15-20 minutes) from Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Tip: Arrive early to avoid the biggest crowds and the heat. Be prepared to haggle politely.
Visit the stunning Kota Kinabalu City Mosque (Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu), often called the "Floating Mosque" due to its strategic design and location, appearing to float on the waters of Likas Bay. Its beautiful blue and gold dome and intricate architecture make it a prominent landmark.
Tip: Dress modestly if you wish to enter the mosque (robes are available for rent). Photography from outside is also popular, especially at sunset.
Head to the Filipino Market (Pasar Filipino or Handicraft Market), particularly in the evening, for an incredible fresh seafood feast. Conclude your day by witnessing one of Sabah's famous sunsets at Tanjung Aru Beach, just a short drive from the city center. The sky often erupts in brilliant hues of orange, red, and purple as the sun dips below the horizon of the South China Sea.
Tip: Arrive early to find a good spot. There are food stalls and cafes along the beach, making it a perfect spot for an evening stroll.
