Overview
Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve, located in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, between the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. This unique park was established in 1980 primarily to protect the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), the world's largest living lizard, which is endemic to these islands. Experience the surreal beauty of Pink Beach (Pantai Merah). The sand here gets its unique hue from microscopic red coral fragments mixing with white sand. It's an incredible spot for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling in the clear waters, which teem with vibrant marine life.
Tip: There are multiple pink beaches in the park; your tour will likely stop at one. Protect the environment by not taking sand or shells.
Head to Manta Point, a renowned cleaning station and feeding ground, for an incredible opportunity to snorkel or dive alongside majestic manta rays. These gentle giants gracefully glide through the water, offering an unforgettable encounter.
Tip: While mantas can be seen year-round, the rainy season (December-March) often provides clearer waters and higher chances of sightings. Be respectful of the marine life and keep a distance.
Komodo National Park is a world-class marine biodiversity hotspot. Beyond Manta Point, numerous sites like Siaba Bay, Kanawa Island, and Batu Bolong offer exceptional snorkeling and diving. As evening approaches, cruise towards Kalong Island (often near Rinca Island) to witness a spectacular natural phenomenon: thousands of flying foxes (large fruit bats) emerging from the mangrove forests at sunset, soaring across the sky in search of food on nearby Flores Island.
