Overview
Kangaroo Island, located just 13 kilometers (8 miles) off the coast of South Australia, is Australia's third-largest island and a pristine natural sanctuary often referred to as a "zoo without fences." Despite a devastating bushfire season in late 2019/early 2020 which affected a significant portion of its western wilderness, the island's unique ecosystems are remarkably resilient and continue to recover, with much of the eastern and central parts of the island remaining untouched or quickly regenerating.
Kangaroo Island is a haven for diverse native Australian wildlife, including its namesake kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, platypuses, and a vast array of bird species. Its dramatic coastline boasts stunning cliffs, pristine white-sand beaches, and remarkable geological formations. Beyond its natural wonders, the island offers exceptional local produce, from honey and wine to fresh seafood, making it an appealing destination for nature lovers, foodies, and those seeking an authentic Australian wilderness experience.
Visit Flinders Chase National Park, located on the western end of the island. While much of it was impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires, recovery efforts are well underway, and parts are regenerating beautifully.

Experience a truly unique close encounter with a wild colony of Australian sea lions at Seal Bay Conservation Park. Take a guided beach tour to walk among these interesting creatures as they rest, play.

Savor the gourmet delights. Visit a honey farm (the area is home to the world's only pure Ligurian bee population) for tastings and purchases. Explore wineries or the Spirits distillery for tastings.
