The Seto Inland Sea (Seto Naikai) is a body of water separating Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, three of the four main islands of Japan. At high tide, the gate appears to float on the water, creating a spectacular sight. Explore the shrine complex, meet the friendly wild deer, and consider hiking Mount Misen for panoramic views.
Tip: Check tide tables to see the torii gate at both high and low tide. Miyajima is easily accessible by ferry from Hiroshima.
Discover charming historical areas that preserve the region's past. The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter in Okayama boasts well-preserved Edo-period canals and merchant houses.
