Ascend to the Fortica (Spanjola Fortress), a Venetian fortress perched on a hill above Hvar Town. The relatively easy hike offers breathtaking panoramic views of the town, the Pakleni Islands, and the sparkling Adriatic Sea.
Tip: Go in the late afternoon for stunning sunset views. There's a small museum inside the fortress as well.
Embark on a boat trip to the Pakleni Islands, a beautiful archipelago of islets and hidden coves located just opposite Hvar Town. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling in secluded bays, and relaxing on pristine beaches like Palmižana.
Tip: You can take a taxi boat from Hvar Town harbor, rent a small boat, or join an organized tour. Palmižana also has excellent restaurants.
Explore the serene Franciscan Monastery and Museum, located on the waterfront of Hvar Town. This beautiful 15th-century complex houses a rich collection of artifacts, including old masters' paintings, textiles, and antique books, set within tranquil cloisters.
Tip: Admire the impressive cypress tree in the monastery garden, which is over 400 years old.
Visit the historic Hvar Public Theatre (Hvarsko kazalište), housed within the Arsenal building. Dating back to 1612, it is one of the oldest public theatres in Europe. Admire its preserved interior and learn about its cultural significance.
Tip: Check if there are any performances or exhibitions scheduled during your visit.
If visiting in late June to mid-July, drive or cycle into the island's interior to witness the magnificent lavender fields in full bloom, particularly around the villages of Velo Grablje and Brusje. The air becomes wonderfully fragrant.
Tip: Beyond the bloom season, you can still find products made from lavender (oils, soaps, dried flowers) in local shops year-round.
