For those who want to get closer to the landscape, there are numerous hiking trails suitable for all fitness levels. From a short, easy walk along the River Coe to more challenging hikes, the trails offer a chance to explore the hidden valleys and stunning waterfalls of the glen.
Tip: Even for a short walk, proper footwear is highly recommended, as the paths can be rocky and wet.
The scenic drive along the A82 road through Glencoe is an attraction in itself. You will pass by stunning landmarks like the mountain of Buachaille Etive Mor, the moody Rannoch Moor, and the serene Loch Achtriochtan, all of which offer endless photo opportunities.
Tip: There are many small pull-offs and designated laybys. Always use them rather than stopping on the side of the road, as it can be a very busy route.
Take a slight detour from the A82 to drive the narrow road down into Glen Etive. This single-track road, made famous in the James Bond movie Skyfall, winds its way through a wild and secluded glen and ends at the beautiful Loch Etive.
Tip: Be prepared for single-track road driving with passing places. Drive slowly and be mindful of other vehicles.
Visit the small but charming Glencoe Folk Museum to get a glimpse of local life from centuries past. The museum, housed in a traditional cottage, has a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the local community.
Tip: The museum is run by volunteers and has limited hours, so check ahead to ensure it is open.
