Yeosu, South Korea Cruise Port

Yeosu lies deep down on the southern tip of the Korean peninsula within the South Jeolla province. The port and its surrounding city are stunning to look at, especially at night with all its beautiful lights glistening under the expansive sky above. Its ocean-centric community is a resort area and prime stop for tourists. Yeosu is known for its seafood and oceanic life, as well as its impressive beaches and marinas. In 1998, the scope of the port grew larger when Yeosu City merged with Yeocheon City. And in 2012, it was selected as the host city for the World Expo in Yeosu Harbor. The current population is around 300,000 with people inhabiting 49 of the 317 surrounding islands. Because of the World Expo, a new, revitalized harbor area was constructed prior to 2012, allowing many large boats to dock at once, so it’s no longer necessary for cruise ships to anchor in the ocean while their passengers are tendered ashore.

• Aqua Planet Yeosu is an aquarium which displays a plethora of fish and maritime species. There are shows available throughout the day featuring the likes of beluga whales and penguins.
   
• Located at the top of a substantial hill, accessible by cable car, Dolsan Park offers a smashing view of the Dolsan Grand Bridge and Yeosu Bay.
   
• The peaceful Yi Sun Shin Square is a wonderful place to explore, including a replica of a traditional turtle ship, open for tours, and numerous restaurants and shops.
   
• For fresh-caught fish and seafood, visit the Yeosu Fish Market. There are other market selections besides fish, such as fruits and vegetables, but nothing compares to the vast variety of the excellent fish.
