Victoria, Seychelles Cruise Port

While cruising to the eastern part of Africa through the Indian Ocean, you may come across the archipelago called the Seychelles and the port of Victoria, Mahe island. Victoria is the Seychelles' capital city, and Mahe its main island; despite its proximity to the African continent, the city was originally settled by the French in 1778, and then eventually formally established by British colonialists in 1814. The post office and courthouse in the town's center have remained relatively unchanged since colonial times, creating a bit of "time travel" feel when visiting Victoria. Along with the old-world sensibilities, you'll find excellent modern restaurants and a busy club scene, and the warm climate year-round provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Along with exploring area history at the Natural History Museum and gazing at the iconic clock tower, here some of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles:

The scenic trail up Morne Blanc will take you to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view of Mahe's western seaboard. The walk up takes around two to three hours, depending on rate of speed; birdwatchers may be doubly rewarded with sightings of the Seychelles bulbul, Seychelles swiftlet, and Seychelles sunbird.
On the town's outskirts, the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens dates back more than 100 years. In addition to endemic and exotic plants, you'll find rare spice and fruit trees, giant tortoises, and fruit bats. Keep an eye out for the lovely Seychelles/Japanese Friendship Monument dedicated in 1990.
The temple known as Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar is right in the middle of the city, fascinating for both its riot of color and that it's the only Hindu temple in the Seychelles. Erected in 1992, it's dedicated to Lord Vinayagar, the Hindu god of safety and prosperity.
Beau Vallon, one of the best beaches in Mahe, is only a few miles from town. Visit for white sands and coconut palms to shade you from the sun; whether you want to swim or try some other water sport, this is a safe place to do it, and surprisingly uncrowded.
