Tournon, France Cruise Port

Located on the right bank of the Rhone River is the attractive cruise port of Tournon in the Ardeche department of southern France. A walk through the village reveals various interesting buildings including Tournon's castle museum, The Collegiate Church of Saint Julien, Lycée Gabriel-Fauré, Pierregourde Tower and the Suspension Bridge among others. The 10th Century feudal castle is built into a rock overlooking the town and the river, while the Collegiate Church of Saint Julien is a gothic style architecture containing some excellent frescoes. Tain L'Hernitage provides the perfect setting for true connoisseurs of wine and Cite du Chocolat Valrhona is a great place to taste and shop for different varieties of gourmet chocolates.

With plenty to explore while cruising to Tournon, France, these places of attraction are only a highlight of the amazing sights to encounter:

  • Chateau-Musee de Tournon (Castle-Museum of Tournon) stands majestically on its rock with foundations dating back to the 10th Century. At its foot, there is a maze of narrow streets leading to the historical center of the town with medieval origins. The many mullioned windows testify to the architectural evolution of the building. During the Renaissance, a section of the castle was built specifically to house the town museum, making it a castle-museum.

  • Le Jardin d'Eden is a pleasant woodland garden with some fabulous views of Tournon and the river stretched out below the gardens. The peace and tranquility experienced there is second to none. As you’re left to explore the paths, ponds and plants perched in the middle of the old fortifications in the heart of the city, you will be intrigued by the beauty of the cruise port of Tournon showcased from the garden slopes.

  • Marc Seguin Bridge is both picturesque and historically interesting. It was erected over the Rhone River by Marc Seguin and his brother in 1825 with cables. Over the years, a few renovations have occurred since it was destroyed in 1965. Just stroll across the bridge and admire the pleasant sights and attractions in the cruise port of Tournon, France.
