Tamano (Uno Port), Japan Cruise Port

Known for its industrial ship construction and metal refining, Tamano is a city located in the southern Okayama Prefecture. Home to one of the major shipbuilding yards in all of Japan, the Uno Port offers a plethora of activity for cruisers. Not too far from port is the Aeon Mall, the largest shopping center in the Chugoku/Shikoku region. With hundreds of shops, visitors can browse luxury to everyday apparel and dine at some of the finest restaurants in the area. Closer to port, the area offers up culture with various museums relating to different concepts, including art, science, and marine life. As a hub for both small and large ships between Honshu and Shikoku, tourists can catch the railroad or ferry to move freely around the region. If walking around port, travelers can observe many great pieces of art outside the traditional museum setting. These great sculptures keep the port’s atmosphere vibrant.

• Discover a new take on art at the Lee Ufan Museum. On display are collaborative works between artist Ufan and architect, Tadao Ando. The underground structure, designed by Ando, shows nearly four decades of their works.
   
• Meet animals up close and personal at the Shibukawa Zoo/Animal Park. It’s been called the most expansive petting zoo in Japan.
   
• Observe, interact with, and even feed marine life at the Shibukawa Marine Aquariums. The seals and sea turtles are a particular friendly lot at this intimate underwater park.
   
• A hot spot for nature lovers, Miyama Park is home to many different types of flowers—all of which bloom at different times of year. This park has gardens within gardens, transforming a casual visit into an expedition.
