Seogwipo City, Jeju Island, South Korea Cruise Port

Seogwipo City on Jeju Island has a port on the far side of the island on a craggy, volcanic coastline. It’s the second largest city after Cheju City, home to the other port, and is located in South Korea’s Jeju Province. This welcoming, industrial city has a population around 155,000 which has increased since 2006 when the borders of Seogwipo were expanded to include the entire southern half of the island. This less-busy port has the advantage of many amazing, up-close scenic views. Like its fellow city, it too is a World Heritage Site which protects its natural flora, fauna, and local waters, including many stunning waterfalls. In 2002, Seogwipo took the world’s stage when it became one of the hosts for that year’s FIFA World Cup. The Jeju World Cup Stadium, with a 35,657 person capacity, opened six months before the event and hosted three regulation matches.

• One of the most intense and rewarding hiking sites in Seogwipo is Seongsan Ilchulbong. The land is a straight shot upwards, guided by hundreds of well-made and maintained stairs, leading to a phenomenal view from the top.
   
• Cheonjeyeon Falls is a peaceful and mesmerizing waterfall surrounded by a forest area where many hikers come from to gaze at this wonder of nature.
   
• Aquaplanet Jeju is an impressive aquarium with numerous tanks to house a variety of species and maritime animals. The gigantic main tank is practically a small ocean with sharks, rays, and many species of fish together in an incredible environment.
   
• The O’Sulloc Tea Museum has some exhibits and guides rolling out the history of tea and tea production, but most visitors go for the outstanding food and wide selection of teas. There are so many unique varieties; choose wisely.
