Seguam Island, Alaska Cruise Port

Like a link tail extending out from the mainland, the cruise port of Seguam Island, Alaska is a mountainous offering within the Bering Sea. Part of the Andreanof Islands group within Alaska's Aleutian Islands, Seguam Island is small, yet volcanic; the most recent activity has taken place at Pyre Peak, the highest point on the island. The overlapping geology here has resulted in two calderas (a type of volcanic crater), each of them containing volcanic cones. The Andreanof Islands were first explored in 1761 by Russian navigator Andreyan Tolstykh, after whom the group was named, with Seguam Island one of the largest. Like the others, Seguam is foggy and treeless because of nearly constant winds. Despite this, the island may actually be inhabited: as of the 2000 U.S. census, one resident was reported to be living here. Chances are, if you're coming to Seguam Island, you're coming to see the volcanoes. There are tours which pair a trip here with a visit to nearby Chagulak Island, an uninhabited island consisting of a single volcano reaching a height of 3,474 feet.
Adventurous types might want to try their hand at kayaking among the volcanic islands, although it's not for the faint of heart; the area isn't nicknamed "Birthplace of the Winds" for nothing.
The nearby Aleutian Islands offer more in terms of things to do. Visit Amlia Island (between Atka Island and Seguam Island) to explore marine life in the tidal pools, such as the Black Katy Chiton, or look for foxes: Amlia has a large fox population, both red and silver-gray in color.
There are plenty of whale watching tours around the Aleutian Islands where you can spot orca, humpback, and gray whales. If you're lucky, you might also catch sight of the more elusive minke whale, and the joyful Dall's porpoise.
