Divers and snorkelers may already know about the unique spot called The Grotto, created from a collapsed limestone cavern and a pool of seawater filled by three underwater passageways. There's a set of about 100 concrete steps that take you to the water; once there, enjoy the amazing blueness of the pool and keep an eye out for the varied wildlife that swim here.
Mount Tapochau is the highest area on the island and not your typical mountain: This one is made of limestone, and was a strategic point during the World War II Battle of Saipan. Today, drive or hike up to enjoy the panoramic views which include the nearby Banzai Cliff, Mount Achugao, and island of Tinian.
Find the American Memorial Park in Garapan to honor the sacrifices made during WWII. Military history buffs will want to explore the World War II museum and flag monument, the latter of which lists more than 4,000 U.S. military personnel and islanders who died here in 1944.
After the park, visit Micro Beach (also in Garapan). The beautiful white sands are well groomed and perfect for sunbathing, but it's busier than the beaches at Pau Pau or Laulau.
